Rothenburg ob der Tauber City and Youth Wind Orchestras

The Rothenburg City and Youth Wind Orchestra, Inc. was founded in 1982 by Herbert Meißner and has since grown to include about 70 active musicians, 50 of whom are in the main orchestra and 20 in the youth orchestra. It is a symphonic wind orchestra that, under the direction of Jan-Peter Scheurer, maintains a lively performance schedule.

The high standards required—ranging from an advanced high school level up to the highest level—represent a challenge that both the orchestra and the conductor actively seek. The two orchestras rehearse once a week in the modern rehearsal room at the “Haus der Musik,” located in the center of Rothenburg. Among the traditional performances of the City and Youth Wind Orchestras are the “Ascension Day Concert,” which annually opens the series of open-air concerts on Rathausplatz, as well as the concert evening at the “Weingut Glocke” Wine Festival, the concert on German Unity Day at the Marktplatz, the “Bohemian Serenade” on the Stöberleinsbühne, as well as performances on Remembrance Day and at the opening of the Rothenburg Christmas Market.
